Introducing David Garratt
* I have been a home owner, landlord, and small business owner in the Northern Suburbs of Wellington for more than fifteen years providing me with good local knowledge.
* I have worked for more than twelve years as a Real Estate Sales Consultant in the Northern Suburbs bringing great experience to the role.
* I have the backing of a reputable company with 15 salespeople all actively working and focusing on the Northern Suburbs residential housing market. Guardian First National has a dominant market share in the local area which provides you with a large buyer pool.
* Honest Communication and Feedback is at the core of my service to homeowners who have employed me. A realistic and facts backed opinion is my aim when discussing house values with homeowners in the area. Knowing that you are getting an honest assessment, helps you make an informed decision.
* I have a warm and friendly outgoing personality. This helps ease the stress of buying or selling and helps when involved in negotiations.
* I have a focus on selling property on the web and have recently upskilled in the area of Internet Marketing. A paradigm shift has taken place in the way buyers approach buying real estate. This has translated into an increased focus on the online world as the most efficient and effective tool for selling properties. You need to work with someone who understands and excels at Internet Marketing for you.
Some more background
Having lived and owned homes in Johnsonville for fifteen years, and worked in the Northern Suburbs for over twenty years with twelve years working as a sales consultant for First National, I would definitely call myself a local. Over this time I have built up an excellent base of local knowledge not only of the properties, but also of the people who live, work and operate their businesses in this area.
I am the oldest of four children and lived in Wadestown for all of my early years. I attended Wadestown School followed by higher school education at Wellington College. In 1992, I graduated Victoria University with a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration. My double major of Marketing and Management provided me with the theoretical foundation for successful selling in today’s market. After this, I spent some years helping to manage a retail business in Johnsonville where I was able to develop the practical skills and knowledge needed to run a business and to sell and negotiate successfully.
I have had excellent success within the First National network reaching award level status in my first full year and steadily progressing upwards with each year after. I have now achieved Diamond Status putting me in the top few percent of consultants working for First National within the 100 plus offices in New Zealand.
I currently live in Johnsonville in a 1960’s home which I have fully renovated. Prior to that I lived in Churton Park. I have been happily married for 14 years and have a seven year old boy and a four year old girl who both keep me very busy in my spare time.

Early on in my Real Estate career, I saw the benefits of property investment and purchased my first rental property in Newlands which I still own. In the ensuing eight years my wife and I have bought, renovated, rented out, and sold a good number of properties giving me fresh first hand experience of the home buying, selling, and renting process from all sides.
I have always been actively involved in sports with my early years been taken up with soccer, cricket, and tennis. From my late teens I have enjoyed regular squash playing and outdoor pursuits such as surfing and cycling. I am currently a very active member of the local gym in Johnsonville. Two highlights of the last couple of years involved taking part in the “Day Night Thriller” – a 12 hour mountain biking event at Spa Park in Taupo and I also completed my first 160km Solo Lake Taupo circuit. Both events were a lot of fun and really pushed my personal boundaries and motivation. I am currently a part time group fitness instructor at City Fitness, the local gym in Johnsonville (Group Power is a weights-based hour long cardio fitness class for strength, toning, and heart fitness) and take two classes a week. I enjoy the interaction with the regulars who come along to keep fit and the gym is a great networking spot too!
Apart from the gym, I have an interest in photography. You can view a small selection of my photos here. Having an interest in photography works well with my job as a property consultant.
With the rise of internet use in home buying, it is more important than ever to have clear, uncluttered, well composed and lit photos that display homes for sale in a professional and positive way.
I have an easy going nature and am not a fan of high pressure sales tactics. In Real estate, I have a people focus. As an extrovert, I love being in a job that allows me to meet new people and allows me to help people attain their dreams. It is important to me that clients of mine have a good buying or selling experience so I seek to reduce the stress of buying and selling and inject a bit of fun into the process.
I have always had a long-term approach to real estate - if I do a good job the first time, people will want to deal with me again. As a result of this focus, most of my current business is now being conducted with people I have served previously or friends and family of previous clients that I have been referred to. I believe in doing my absolute best in whatever I undertake, and it is important to me to be part of a team, all working together to achieve the high level of excellence in service that Guardian First National is renowned for.
